The Lowdown on... Bury

Posted on: Sun 21 Mar 2010

Next up for the Millers will be the first home contest in three weeks, as fourth placed Bury travel to Don Valley tomorrow.

Bury are fourth place behind Notts County, with just goal difference separating the teams.

They haven't won in their last five games, and have only managed to return one goal during this recent run of poor form, which has seen them slip out of the top three.

They travel to Don Valley on Saturday on the back of a 2-0 away defeat to mid-table Macclesfield.

Bury currently have former Millers boss Alan Knill at the helm, and he spoke about his side's recent run of poor form after the latest defeat to Macclesfield;

"We need to get back straight on it and start winning games otherwise those teams around us will catch us and we obviously don't want that.

"The good thing is I believe we've got some quality and I'm quite sure that quality will shine through and we'll get to where we want to get.

"But right now we just have to dig in and be strong."

Alan Knill has this week brought in Oldham Athletic striker, Keigan Parker on an emergency loan deal until the end of the season to add to The Shakers frontline.

"Keigan brings us pace at the top end of the pitch," said Knill. "He works the channels well and has got plenty of talent."

Parker could make his full debut against The Millers on Saturday. One blow for The Shakers coming into this game however, is the suspension of their top scorer Ryan Lowe, who was sent off last week against Macclesfield.

Earlier this season, Bury were victorious at Gigg Lane with a dramatic 2-1 win, Richie Baker snatching a late win.

Last season, The Millers were undefeated against Bury after recording a 2-1 win at Gigg Lane and playing out a 1-1 draw at Don Valley in March.

This game then looks like it could have a huge say in both team's chances of making the automatic promotion places. Depending on results elsewhere, Rotherham could sneak back into third place with a win, whilst Bury could also leapfrog Notts County and move back up to third themselves.
