The Millers were once again busy throughout April as they faced seven games in addition to last month's eight. They began with a second away win in a week at Aldershot, and exacted some revenge in the process after two home defeats to the Shots earlier in the season.Reuben Reid, carrying forward his excellent form from the previous month, scored the only goal of the game on 11 minutes to earn the Millers the points.
A third consecutive away trip followed, but the travelling appeared to take its toll on the side as they were convincingly beaten 2-0 at Barnet thanks to a brace from veteran striker Paul Furlong.
After a busy fortnight, the team were happy to return to Don Valley and put the disappointment of the defeat at Barnet behind them as they completed the double over Notts County.Mark Hudson put the Millers in front on the stroke of half time before Reid scored again to double the advantage.Jonathan Forte pulled one back for the visitors with fifteen minutes remaining but the home side held firm to claim a welcome victory.
After just one day off over the Easter weekend, Rotherham then travelled south to face struggling Port Vale but neither side were able to break the deadlock as the Millers came home with a point.
Shrewsbury were the next visitors to Don Valley and needed to win to keep their slim chances of the play-offs alive. After a tight first half, Nick Chadwick gave the Shrews the lead in the last minute of the first half. The Millers started the second half on the back foot as the visitors looked to hammer home their advantage, but when Ryan Taylor equalised with 20 minutes remaining it seemed there would only be one winner. As the Millers pushed forward, Shrewsbury re-took the lead against the run of play after an unfortunate own goal from Ian Sharps. The visitors held on and made the play-offs, eventually losing to Gillingham at Wembley.
The Millers were at home again in midweek, with Morecambe the visitors this time. The visitors faced a similar situation as Shrewsbury, having a slim chance of the play-offs if they won their remaining games and other results went in their favour.Their chances were ruined, however, after the Millers took the points in a thrilling 3-2 victory.Goals from Ryan Taylor, Jason Taylor and Mark Burchill were enough despite goals from Diarmuid O'Carroll and a stunning strike from Jim Bentley for the visitors.
The month ended badly, with Rotherham facing Bradford in their final away game of the season.New Millers signing Nicky Law showed Mark Robins exactly what he is capable of with an outstanding performance in the heart of the Bantams' midfield. Two goals from veteran striker Peter Thorne, one of which was shrouded in controversy, and a third from Steve Jones rounded off a comfortable victory for Stuart McCall's side.
