Millers v Chesterfield - Last meeting
The Millers came into the game without a win in their last four league games, whilst Chesterfield were just one point behind and looking to resurrect their play-off bid.
The Spireites almost had the lead as early as the fifth minute when leading scorer Jack Lester latched onto Steve Fletcher's flick to run clear on goal, but Lester's effort went well over Andy Warrington's crossbar. The Millers responded with a good moved that was almost finished by Peter Holmes, but his effort was guided just wide.
On 28 minutes the Millers took the lead when Jamie Yates was felled just outside the area, the resulting free-kick was then swept into the top corner by Holmes to put the Millers in front. Just before half time the Millers were denied a second when Chris O'Grady headed just wide but moments later a second was scored and again Holmes was at the heart of the goal. The winger sent in a telling cross which fell to Marc Joseph who volleyed in superbly to give the Millers a half time 2-0 advantage.
The Spireites pulled one back in the 75th minute when Jamie Ward scored with a well placed low shot which beat a diving Warrington. Sensing a point Chesterfield flooded forward but created no further clear cut chances as the Millers held on for a valuable three points.
