Mark Robins Post-Chesterfield

Posted on: Sat 15 Mar 2008

Rotherham United manager Mark Robins was a much happier man after watching his team beat Chesterfield 2-1 to complete a winning double.

He said; "I feel a lot better than I did on Tuesday night, that's for sure, it was more like it and we have realised how to win football matches again.

"The lads have been fantastic today and that's something like we have been previously, there were some excellent towering performances and throughout the side we have taken the game to them exactly as I wanted them to do in the previous games.

"We set the stall out early on and continued it to the end after their excellent goal which gave them a lift but we snuffed them out exceedingly well.

"Pablo Mills at centre half was superb, he has been chomping at the bit to play there alongside Graham Coughlan and he gave a towering performance, something he has to maintain without switching off and getting into the comfort zone.

"We have to make sure everyone is at that level, we have set the standards again and have to maintain them to the end of the season. We were strong defensively and attacked with more purpose than we have done of late with some confidence coming back while Jamie Yates gave us a little more down the right hand side with his pace.

"To a man they have given an excellent account of themselves. Peter Holmes has come in for some criticism from the fans but he answered them today well and truly.

"We controlled midfield and their formation suited us, we passed the ball better and had the desire to get behind them rather than play everything in front so there has been more movement. It was an all round better performance with Dale Tonge and Marc Joseph excellent at full back.

We needed this massively as we have been on a shocking run, it was a local game that has now seen us four points in front of Chesterfield, a very big win. Marc Joseph's goal was an excellent finish.

"Ian Sharps will have to go and see a specialist to see whether he has a hernia and if so when will he need the operation. It was a much needed win and the players are in better spirits."
