This is one way we feel we can make that contribution. Who knows that over the next couple of days, some of our lads may well be representing Pakistan, but also Rotherham United."

Local Councillor Maroof Hussain said on the matter "One of the key factors from Rotherham council's perspective, is that this is a really good engagement for the Rotherham community. It is a way of using sport to mobilise the community. I think that the more we do with football, and sport in general, is going to be good so any links we can make with our home football team Rotherham United and the Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas, we can start to encourage some of the youngsters not only to play for the Pakistan National Team, but also for Rotherham United and any local Premier League and Football League team. There is a huge lack of Asian footballers in general and this has certainly mobilised the youngsters to start using sport as a mechanism for engaging. This is a fantastic opportunity not only for the Pakistani Football team but also for Rotherham United and Rotherham as a whole. I hope that other teams in the League take up this opportunity and start to engage within their communities."

Head of Youth Mick Priest said: "From a football point of view, this is an exciting opportunity and I am pretty sure that there is quite a large market out there in the Asian community. I hope that we can get some players of a decent standard and who are good enough to go to Pakistan for a trial and to possibly represent Rotherham United in the future.
