A Derek Holmes double helped Rotherham United to a comfortable victory against Wrexham and in the process completed a winning double against the Welshmen.

Ian Ross came into side for his debut in place of illness victim Mark Hudson while Ryan Taylor was back up front to the exclusion of Peter Holmes

The Millers made a bright start and Derek Holmes had the ball in the net in the fourth minute but his effort was ruled out for offside before the linesman failed to raise his flag when two Wrexham players were clearly offside but Llewellyn's cross brought no reward.

Pablo Mills saw a 30 yarder deflected to the keeper before two home corners were cleared and in the tenth minute the deadlock was almost broken. Steve Brogan crossed to find Graham Coughlan whose header hit the bar and from the rebound, Derek Holmes' close range shot was saved.

The game took a turn on 14 minute when the Welshmen were reduced to ten men with Crowell shown a straight red card for a two footed tackle on Ross.

Holmes then had a shot blocked before Wrexham replied with Evans heading wide from a Jones free kick.

Roberts then fired in a 30 yarder that Warrington dealt with before the Millers responded with Ross firing just over from 25 yards.

Harrison had a shot well saved as United piled on the pressure and it paid off in the 40th minute when they took the lead. The move started with a superb pass from Ryan Taylor to Brogan whose crossed picked out Harrison. His shot was blocked but Holmes was on hand to knock the ball home from close range.

The injured Harrison had to be replaced by Dale Tonge just before the interval and early in the second half two Millers corners brought no reward before Jones fired wide for the visitors. It was almost two up for the Millers on 57 minutes but the keeper made a fine save from a Ross shot and then he kept out an effort from Tongewhile at the other end Wrexham might have grabbed an equaliser when a long run by Aiston put him in the clear only for Warrington to make a superb save.

Mills hit a 25 yarder just wide before the lead was increased on 72 minutes when a fine run by Brogan saw him cross to the far post where Holmes scored with ease.

That confirmed the Millers superiority and they won two more corners as they kept up the pressure with Coughlan heading just wide. O'Grady then fired just wide after a good link up with Ross and Joseph before the third goal came on 82 minutes.

The impressive Ross started the move that was ended with a delightful finish by Marc Newsham showed his class again.

It was almost four on 85 minutes when O'Grady had a shot well saved and in the last minute Jamie Yates broke away and from his cross O'Grady saw his shot blocked.
