It was back to winning ways at last for United as they completed a winning double against Chesterfield for only the second time with the last being way back in 1928/29 season.

There were three changes in the line up with Jamie Yates coming in for his first league start of the season and the Millers went straight on to the attack with Chris O'Grady crossing but Derek Holmes failed to make a connection.

The first real chance of the game fell to the visitors in the fifth minute when leading scorer Lester had a great opening after Fletcher headed down a long ball but his shot went well over the bar.

Marc Joseph hit a free kick straight to the keeper before a great ball from Danny Harrison found Peter Holmes who went on a good run but finished with a shot that went just wide.

Dale Tonge delivered a good cross that saw an O'Grady shot blocked before Mark Hudson had a 20 yarder saved while at the other end Ward was wide with a shot from 25 yards.

Then on 28 minutes the Millers took the lead when Yates was fouled just outside the penalty area and Peter Holmes scored with a superbly flighted free kick into the top corner of the net.

Ten minutes later United went close again when Derek Holmes headed down to Yates who delivered a fine cross that saw O'Grady head only just wide. A home corner brought no reward but on 44 minutes the home side went two up. Peter Holmes delivered another telling free kick that was only cleared to Joseph who netted with a superbly struck left foot volley.

Four minutes into the second half it was almost three when Derek Holmes headed goalbound only for the keeper to0 turn the ball round the post for a corner that brought no reward.

Peter Holmes drilled a free kick into the defensive wall and the visitors saw Hartley's free kick saved by Warrington while Derek Holmes headed on a free kick to O'Gr4ady whose header was saved.

Chesterfield pushed forward and Fletcher headed just over the bar from a Picken cross but they pulled a goal back on 75 minutes when ward scored with a well struck shot.

That lifted the Spireites and they won another corner that was headed out and both sides had further flag kicks that brought no reward.

From a Chesterfield flag kick Ryan Taylor broke away but shot well wide and the Millers gained control of the last few minutes to take the game to full time and a much need and well deserved win.
