Professional performance pleases Ronnie

Posted on: Sat 15 May 2010

Ronnie Moore was a delighted manager after his Rotherham United side took a one goal advantage into the second leg, after victory at Aldershot Town.

Adam Le Fondre secured the win in the second half latching onto a defensive mistake but Ronnie emphasised that there is still plenty of work to do if the Millers are to make the final at Wembley.

"I am obviously delighted with the win because it looked as though it was going to be 0-0," he said after the game.

"No one is getting over-excited about anything, we are halfway through and there is still an awful lot of work to be done.

"They are a good attacking side with flair but if we defend the way we did today then we win the game because I thought our defence was magnificent today. They won everything in the air, we limited them to very few chances which was pleasing for us and you know that Alfie is always going to get a chance in the game, and it was a fantastic finish."

Ronnie pointed to an incident in first half stoppage time when Gavin Gunning saved the Millers with a tremendous block, just one example of the Millers' excellent defensive performance.

"It was fantastic," he added.

"As a unit our back four were all fantastic. There was also a moment when Andy Warrington has come out and made a save but we are not jumping up and down because we know we have to stay professional."

Ronnie also thanked the Millers travelling support who made plenty of noise behind the goal throughout the 90 minutes.

"They were fantastic," continued Ronnie.

"They came a long way and got right behind us, now we need to create that kind of atmosphere at Don Valley on Wednesday; hopefully we will have a good crowd."
