Rotherham Ladies 2 v 1 Leafield - Report

Posted on: Thu 26 Nov 2009

Decimated by injuries, Rotherham struggled against the windy elements and a lively Leafield Athletic, to register another valuable three points.

Leafield started the better, with the windy conditions in their favour but even with most of the play, the visitors struggled in front of goal.

Good play down the Leafield right ended with their forward wasting a couple of good chances but Rotherham created two good efforts themselves, notably a great centre from Hayley Wood that Nat Mason headed just over.

The Millers created very little else in a first half that was without any composure or sureness 0-0 prevailed.

With the wind behind them Rotherham were expected to come out and take the game to Leafield, but again the home team didn't deliver.

Leafield took control of the game but you always felt that their industry wasn't going to be rewarded, and Rotherham took the lead after 60 minutes from a 25 yard effort from the Millers Captain Helen Lynskey.

The visitors went forward from that point, and deservedly equalised with a fine solo effort.
The winner wasn't really on the cards from either side until ten minutes from the end when vice captain Amy Pollock collected the ball from all of 30 yards and let loose a thunderous shot that left the visitors goalkeeper helpless.

The Millers took the three points after a poor performance, but for once lady luck was with them.
