Rotherham United Ladies F.C travelled to Tranmere hoping to put the previous games defeat to Leicester behind them. Rotherham got off to a good start, retaining possession and having chances on goal. Against the run of play Tranmere lofted a ball into the box and the Tranmere striker was tripped by Rotherhams Katie Hanson. She slotted the ball past keeper Charlotte Whitley and Tranmere took the lead in the 9th minute. The Millers girls continued to retain possession of the ball and Kerry Longstone had three good attempts on the Tranmere goal seeing the shots go narrowly wide of the post. Helen Lynsky made darting runs from midfield that troubled the Tranmere defenders and in the 42nd minute the frustration of Tranmere resulted in a penalty to Rotherham after the defender pulled Lynsky down in the box. Longstone took responsibility and the Millers girls went in at half time with the score at one all.

Half time
Tranmere 1 v 1 Rotherham

For the first five minutes of the second half Tranmere bombarded the Rotherham goal and defenders Amy Pollack and Kerry Jones had to remain strong. Rotherham earned a corner in the 52nd minute and as the ball was crossed into the box Kerry Jones outjumped the Tranmere defenders heading the ball across the six yard box. New Millers signing striker Sarah Smith was unmarked at the back post and headed the ball into the Tranmere net. From the restart Rotherham regained possession and with good runs up the wing from Hanson and Caroline Woods, Tranmere were camped in their own half. In the 54th minute Woods played a ball to Smith who ran past two defenders and struck the ball from the edge of the box. Unsighted the Tranmere keeper left it too late and the ball went into the top right corner of the net.

Three one to the Millers girls but a long way to go in the game. Tranmere started to play the long ball over the top of the Millers defence and only focused defending from the back four prevented Tranmere from scoring. In the 77th minute Longstone could have made it 4 - 1 when Woods ran up the wing and crossed the ball high into the box. Longstone only had to head the ball into an open goal but she placed it wide. The game ended with an excellent win for Rotherham where the girls had worked hard to gain the three points. Next Sunday 7th September they entertain Manchester City at home at Parkgate in a 2pm kick off.
