Rotherham United Ladies F.C took on second place Lincoln and almost pulled off a shock result. Rotherham started the brightest and within eight minutes forced a save from the Lincoln keeper after a shot from Kerry Longstone.

Rotherham dominated the half with further attempts from Helen Lynsky and Suzanne Davis. A Lincoln corner in the 22nd minute saw Rotherham fail to clear their lines and the Lincoln striker ran onto the ball at the far post blasting the ball into the goal.

Undeservedly the visitors took the lead. Rotherham piled on the pressure and in the 37th minute Lynskey took a corner kick that saw Davis react first striking the ball into the top left of the Lincoln goal, 1-1 remained the score at the break.

Lincoln came out in the second half and stepped up their game, Rotherham keeper Whitley had a few shots to save tipping the ball over and around the post.

Rotherham kept up their attack, the Lincoln keeper was superb at clearing the ball and in the 57th minute a lack of concentration saw Rotherham concede an easy goal after a poor clearance from the back.

The Lincoln striker nicked the ball and chipped Whitley who almost got fingertips to it, Rotherham tried to get the goal back and attempts from Longstone and Davis could not get past the Lincoln keeper.

Lincoln had chances and kept up the pressure right to the end, Rotherham thought they had an equaliser when a ball over the top saw Longstone one on one with the keeper, she knocked the ball past her and as the ball went towards the line a Lincoln defender cleared it.

Shouts from the Rotherham supporters for a penalty as they felt the keeper had stopped Longstone from trying to get to the ball. Rotherham threw everybody forward but the game was to end with a Lincoln win. Rotherham had an excellent game and next week they travel to Aston Villa.
