Rotherham United Ladies F.C V Stockport.

It took Rotherham united Ladies F.C 18 minutes to have their first shot on goal in there first game in the Women's Premier League. With Stockport camped in the Millers half shot after shot reigned in on the Rotherham keeper.

Whitley tipped the ball over and around the crossbar but the pressure was too great and a pacy display by the Stockport midfield led to them scoring two goals in 3 minutes.

Stockport entertained with great speed and agility showing the class of a premier league side. Rotherham had to up their game and wingers Woods and Hanson pushed on into the box resulting in some corners for Rotherham.

The best chance for Rotherham came from a corner in which Woods shot, the ball was parried by the keeper and fell to Booth who blasted in toward the goal only to see it blocked and cleared by Stockport. Half time came and Rotherham had kept the score at two.

Rotherham knew they had to be switched on and they had a better start to the second half. By pressuring the Stockport midfield Rotherham began to win the ball and by keeping possession took pressure off them.

Their hard work paid off in the 65th minute when Longstone was put through on goal. The Stockport keeper came off her line but Longstone was able to put the ball past her and in to the goal.

A massive cheer went up from the Millers fans; they knew how much the goal meant. Stockport were becoming jittery and making mistakes, enabling Rotherham to have more attempts on goal, the Stockport keeper preventing them scoring. Rotherham had upped their game and those on the side believed the Millers girls would gain something from the match. How cruel can football be.

In the 77th minute a defensive error from the Rotherham defence saw Stockport score aginst the run of play. Another error two minutes later saw the score at 4, and there was no way back for Rotherham.

Rotherham tried to press forward and in doing so left space for Stockport who raised their tally to 5 in the 90th minute.

Final score Rotherham 1 Stockport 5.
