Community Coach picks up prestigious award

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust's Modern Apprentice Nathan Carlin has won Apprentice of the Year at the Children and Young Peoples' Service Awards held at Magna Science and Adventure Centre.

The Trust would like to congratulate Nathan, from Kimberworth on winning this award for the hard work he puts into his job on a daily basis and the satisfaction he clearly gets from it.

Nathan's nomination:

Apprentice of the Year

Our Modern Apprentice, Nathan Carlin, deserves recognition for his work supporting children and young people in disadvantaged communities. Nathan is a young man who has faced number of personal barriers, but always has a smile on his face and empathises with young people in similar situations.

Nathan is enthusiastic; working weekdays, evenings and weekends to support our community coaches. Nathan often delivers twilight sessions to young people who may have been excluded from school, have anti-social behaviour orders or acceptable behaviour contracts. At weekends Nathan works with Slovakian Roma young people delivering football coaching, his interpersonal skills are excellent and his patience helps others overcome some of the language barriers.

The apprenticeship programme has Nathan undertaking a level 3 NVQ in Sports Coaching. Nathan has gained a number of qualifications; FA level 2 coach, Duke of Edinburgh expedition leader training and will be enrolling on an RMBC youth workers course.
