After successfully securing funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and launching their 'Coal to Goal' project, the Millers Community Sports Trust are now looking for willing fans to volunteer a little of their time in order to make the project as successful as possible.
The project aims to reveal what life was like for footballers and residents of Rotherham during the 1940s and 1950s, specifically the way that mining dominated the area at this time.
Volunteers of the project will be given specific training which will enable them to accompany Community Sports Trust staff to interviews with Millers players and fans from this era, and will hopefully unearth some of the forgotten history of Rotherham United.
When asked about the project Dale Spiby, Community Sports Trust manager had this to say:
"The project is intergenerational and the only criteria for volunteering is that you are over 13 years of age. We see this as a fantastic way of engaging with past and present fans of the Millers as well as families who can work together and discover the history of their favourite club and its surrounding area."
Anyone interested in volunteering for the project should contact the Project Co-ordinator James Rawlinson on 07739463803.
