Academy 1 v 2 Chesterfield - Report
The Millers youngsters travelled to Derbyshire where they slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Chesterfield, despite boasting the majority of the goalmouth action.Goals from Derek Daly and Tope Fowudo ensured the Spireites recorded a victory on home soil, despite Kuda Muskwe’s reply for the visitors.
After an action-packed 90 minutes, Academy Manager Garreth Barker reflected on his team’s performance:
“I’ve paid to watch worse games of football than that. Both teams were good and played very well. Second half I think we were significantly the better team but we couldn’t capitalise on our chances,” he commented.
“We hit the inside of both uprights, we hit the crossbar and had headers and shots cleared off the line.
“The boys’ attitude and application was first class and with the amount of chances that we created it was strange that we didn’t get anything out of it.”
Jerry Yates’ loan departure to Harrogate Railway meant there was a place for the Millers’ goalscorer in the side and Barker was pleased to have the opportunity to give the youngster some game time:
“One of the pluses that was with Jerry Yates being out on loan we were able to give Kuda, who we brought in from Leicester, a chance to start. He played well and grabbed himself a well-taken goal.”
