The Millers recorded a good win in difficult conditions against the Minstermen, with goals from Mason Warren and Adam Johnson helping their side to a 2-0 victory at Wigginton Road Training Ground.

Conditions made it difficult for both sides but it was the visitors who adapted best on a day when free-flowing football was out of the question according to Academy Manager Garreth Barker:

“It was a blustery day so it wasn’t a game for the purists. It was a two nil victory away from home so we were obviously happy with that,” he professed.

“It was a hard-fought contest and they could have scored and we could have scored again but we’re just happy to have got a victory on the road.”

The visitors got off to a flying start and were ahead inside five minutes when Warren’s perfectly executed free kick saw him open the scoring, a goal Barker said wouldn’t have looked out of place at the highest level:

“It was a fantastic set-piece just off-centre of the goal about 25 yards out. Mason has put it up and over the wall and into the top corner and at any level it’s a good free-kick.”

Johnson then sealed the result as he notched the Millers’ second, with his manager insisting his hard work deserved the reward of a goal:

“Adam scored a goal which is good for him. He’s a fantastic lad and he’s industrious and always gives 100%."
