The battle for the Sky Bet Championship title and automatic promotion to the Barclays Premier League continues in the midweek round of matches. AFC Bournemouth face Reading on Tuesday night with a one-point advantage over Norwich City at the summit. The Canaries are level on points with third-placed Watford and sit second courtesy of a one-goal advantage. Norwich take on Leeds on Tuesday night before Watford meet Nottingham Forest at the City Ground a day later. Middlesbrough sit only one point further back and the men from the Riverside host Wolves on Tuesday night.
Two of AFC Bournemouth, Norwich, Watford and Middlesbrough will figure in the play-offs. They will be joined by two of Derby County, Ipswich Town, Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanders in the top-six. Derby currently have a one-point advantage over the other three sides and it’s Ipswich who hold the final play-off place courtesy of a better goal difference. The midweek fixtures see Derby host Blackpool, Ipswich face Cardiff City, Brentford travel to Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves are at Middlesbrough.
Blackpool’s relegation from the Sky Bet Championship has already been confirmed. The two sides most likely to join the Seasiders in Sky Bet League 1 next season appear to be Millwall and Wigan Athletic, who meet in an absolutely vital clash at the New Den on Tuesday night. Both clubs sit seven points behind fourth-bottom Rotherham so a draw would be of little use to both. Fulham host Rotherham on Wednesday night with just a two-point advantage over the Millers so the pressure could be on either of teams after the previous night’s action.
