Millers in the Community...
Local Rotherham schools are currently snapping up the new anti racism project delivered by the Millers Community Sports Trust.The project aims to expose the myths that have been created around race and racism. To date Oakwood, Winterhill and Wingfield have signed up to the project which will see 12 hours of workshops be delivered to pupils where they will learn greater skills in tackling racism in all its forms, the long term plans are for the project to be delivered to all secondary schools.
Momentum has gathered on the back of an official project launch at Rotherham Town Hall during the summer. Mark Cummins Cohesion Officer at the Trust commented:
“It was always part of our long term vision to get schools to buy into the programme; it is particularly fitting that we will start delivering during October as it coincides nicely with Black History Month and the One Game One Community weeks of action.
“The project is unique in its nature and I am convinced it will make a real difference in Rotherham, racism is a hot topic within sport and locally within Rotherham at this moment in time so it is more important than ever that this work is being carried out.”
