SUPER-SUB Ryan Hall revealed he had Millers' chief Steve Evans to thank for his unorthodox winning strike against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
The flying winger came off the bench to good effect to be the Millers' match-winner, as he pounced on an attempted clearance with a block tackle after Wolves failed to clear a corner decisively and fortuitously for the home side, the ball ricocheted into the heart of the visitors' goal.
The goal proved credence to the old adage of being in the right place at the right time and Hall admitted he found himself in the thick of the action after some touchline advice from his gaffer.
"I was sat on the edge of the box and to be honest, I was hoping something would bounce out to me on the edge of the box." he admitted exclusively to www.themillers.co.uk.
"Then, I heard the gaffer shout for me to get in the box and they tried to clear it, but I got a block tackle and it went in the back of the net."
Hall was delighted to have fulfilled the brief of his boss, who asked the enigmatic winger to give his side some much-needed attacking spark after a nervy first-half display.
"My job was to come off the bench and change the game. I got lucky and I managed to do that," he enthused.
"The coaching staff asked me to show a bit of energy, get in their faces and try and create something.
"We always knew it was going to be a tough game. Wolves have got a lot of good players and it was big test for us but we shut them down well and we got the result we wanted."
Following the game, Evans was quick to label his Millers' match-winner a "terrific talent" and the home faithful will hope Hall will give his side the X-factor as they look to break down well-marshalled Championship defences.
When asked what he would bring to the Millers' party, Hall modestly revealed the scale of his ambitions with his new club.
"I want to do everything right for Rotherham United," he added.
"I want to impress, score as many goals as I can and I can hopefully help take the club forward.
"It's a nice way to start the season and the spirit in the dressing room is great, so hopefully we can go on from here.”
