Rush to Walk 2015

27 March 2015

Sponsored by

Rush to Walk is an annual charity event founded by Gillian Headon and Lynn Wilson in 2006 in memory of their dear friend Sandra Rush who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 2004. Their vision was to raise money for local South Yorkshire charities for the benefit of our local community. The first walk in 2006 attracted over 400 walkers and raised £24,000 for local charities. Sadly in 2012, co-founder Lynn Wilson also sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer but we still keep the memory of Sandra and Lynn alive. To date Rush to Walk has raised £103,600; every penny of which stays in our local community and has been distributed to charities such as; Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Rotherham Hospital Charities, Rotherham Breast Screening Unit, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and many more!

This year we want to make the event the biggest yet -we will be joined by Rotherham United Mascot Miller Bear and Sheffield Wednesday Mascot Ozzie Owl! Our fun walk will be taking place from Wentworth Woodhouse on Sunday 3rd May 2015. There is a choice of a push chair friendly 3 or 4 ½ mile walks or a more challenging 7 or 12 mile walk. Make sure you don’t miss out on our fun family day out and enrol online at www.rushtowalk.com – we do not charge an entry fee we only ask that you can collect as much sponsorship as you can! We have got some fantastic raffle prizes up for grabs such as; Yorkshire Wildlife Park + The Deep + Butterfly House tickets, a mountain bike courtesy of Virgin Media & Team Spirit, 2 Bawtry Paintball Field Platinum Packages, Rotherham United + Sheffield United + Sheffield Wednesday tickets and so many more fantastic prizes so make sure you join us on the day!

Our walk isn’t about gimmick; we don’t have tutu’s, t-shirts or obstacle courses –we aim to have a fun day out while raising money for worthy local causes! Funds raised so far have helped buy a flexible ureteroscope at RGH Urology dept we sponsored a family room at Bluebell Wood  children's hospice, help create a breast awareness corner named Sandra's corner at the Chatham suite Rotherham Breast Screening Centre and so much more!

Jamie Noble - Head of Community said " We are proud to be supporting the Rush to Walk event, its a fantastic opportunity to raise funds for local charities which offer so much to our community"
