Gaffer disappointed with Millers start...

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans said his side needed to show character after their 1-0 defeat at home to Birmingham City.

Clayton Donaldson’s goal in the second half was enough to give the visitors all three points, and the Millers boss was disappointed in his side’s start to the game.

“I think it was as poor a performance as I’ve seen from us for a while,” said Evans. “If I watched the DVD I wouldn’t be watching it long as it’s two poor teams and it was just a scrap. They started better than us though and they’re probably disappointed not to be 2-0 ahead after 20 minutes.

“We got in at half-time, changed it around and just as we were getting on top there was a possible foul on Alex and they go up the other end and stick it in the net, but if that’s our performance levels it’s not good enough.”

Alex Revell had a penalty appeal turned down before the Blues’ goal on the counter-attack, but Evans says no blame can be laid at the feet at the referee.

“There’s no excuses,” Evans finalised. “Some the referee will give and some he won’t, but we don’t look at that we look at ourselves and a disjointed performance. Our back line were excellent against Sheffield Wednesday but they didn’t play well today. They weren’t the only ones though.”
