'Keeper signs contract extension...

Rotherham United goalkeeper Adam Collin has extended his stay at New York Stadium, signing a one-year contract extension to keep him with the Millers until 2016.

Collin, who will go down in Millers folklore for his double penalty save at Wembley to confirm promotion to the Championship back in May has made the number one jersey his own this season, and is delighted to be staying at New York.

“It’s gone really well since I’ve joined and now I’m really glad to get another year under my belt and hopefully push on from here,” Collin told www.themillers.co.uk “I’m pleased to be playing in the Championship, I believe I’ve been pretty solid and I’m looking for more of the same.”

The former Carlisle United stopper, who began his career with Premier League giants Newcastle before a spell out of the league has undergone a lifestyle change since being snapped up by Steve Evans, moving from his native north-east, and it’s a switch that appears to have paid off for the likeable shot-stopper who faces stiff competition for his spot between the sticks.

“I moved in the Summer, adapted to the area, and everything is going as well as it could. I came in as a number two to Shears, but I passed him and cemented my place in the team. The Gaffer brought Scott in during the summer to add to the competition but I’ve fought hard and been lucky enough to keep my place.

“I was disappointed to get left out after Bolton, but I had a chat with the Gaffer we expressed our views in the right way, he makes the decisions and stuck to his word of putting me back in and I’ve done what I can to keep that shirt now and I just want to show what I can do in this league.”

Collin is expected to start this Saturday as the Millers host Birmingham City at New York, but like their opponents after that, he’s not expecting a quiet afternoon.

“They’re big games,” he added. “They won’t be easy, and with Birmingham having a new manager in who’s started well, they’ll be up for it. Similarly to Blackpool who are needing the wins as they’re down the bottom as well so both teams will come and put up a real fight and we’ll just have to fight for every point like we knew we would at this level.”
