Open letter to supporters from Sharon Warnock

This is a very belated thank you for all your lovely thoughts.

I feel like I should be thanking you, the supporters and everyone at Rotherham United for giving our little family something else to focus on other than this hiccup in my life.

I'm not sure if you saw the article in Mail on Sunday by the lovely Oliver Holt because Neil has described the moment perfectly when I was happy for him to go.

Please understand my humour when I tell you that my husband’s only real talent lies in football management and I could count on one hand the amount of dinners he's made in 26 years.

I even resorted to giving a gift at Christmas of a cookery course designed for men.

How true it was, they had someone else preparing the ingredients and cleaning up after them.  So I sent him to you and look how well it has turned out. I have to admit to slightly falling out of love with football, the whole money obsessed players, inflated egos, the clipboard management.  I loved the old school football, blood and guts, massive hearts, humour.  When we moved to the West Country we began an annual event of inviting the players to our home for a barbecue and chill out in the pre-season. In the early days it was great with all the players enjoying burgers and a little light refreshment and then came nutritionists and technology and it became more of a pasta and water event.

I am ridiculously proud of Neil and the way he manages.  It doesn't matter that he is useless at cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing and a million other things because to see him on a training ground and hear him motivate his lads is unbelievable.

Rotherham has given Neil a bunch of lads who have given him everything and then some.  It was a perfect combination.

Please thank everyone for all their generosity and support, you are a fabulous club and have played such a happy part in our life.  You should all be very proud of yourselves.

Enjoy your summer and hopefully I will get an opportunity to thank you in person next season.

Sharon
