Rotherham United’s Academy were beaten by Scunthorpe despite an encouraging display by Garreth Barker’s side.
The Millers were playing their first game since the narrow FA Youth Cup exit against Wolves and Barker was pleased with the application shown against the high flying Iron.
“Scunthorpe are a strong side and we knew what we would be up against when we got there but in the first half we played some of the best football I’ve seen us play for a while,” said Garreth Barker.
“I think the lads took some confidence from the cup performance against Wolves because during the first 45 we played really well.
“In the second half we had to contend with some blustery conditions but we had opportunities but just couldn’t take them.”
