Steve Evans post Middlesbrough...

Millers boss Steve Evans praised his side’s effort in the wake of their 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

The visitors held out until half time in Teesside but second half goals from Lee Tomlin and Patrick Bamford saw Boro edge one step closer to the Premier League.

Despite the defeat, Evans was pleased with the Millers endeavour but disappointed with their end product at the business end of the pitch:

“We got in some good areas but our productivity and end ball in the final third wasn’t good enough,” he admitted.

“I think there were a lot of plusses today but they’re a quality side and you can’t say anything else.

“I think we did well today and Jordan Bowery gets a big chance with seven or eight minutes to go which could make it 2-1 and then I’d have liked to have seen the Riverside very nervy for the final 10 minutes or so.”

Former Peterborough United midfielder finally found a way through a resilient Millers defence after a solid first half performance:

“We said at half time that we’d got the home fans booing and after another 10 or 15 minutes we’d have got the whole ground going but we didn’t and we give it away in the middle of the park and they’ve got players that hurt you.

“They never punished us and we had two banks of four and we’d frustrated them and if anything for a spell in the second half I’d say we were the better team.

“Our midfield player gives it away in a cheap area and suddenly you’ve got Lee Tomlin running at you. Then our centre back slips over and he puts it in the corner and you think ‘here we go’ but then we settle down and get the ball in some good areas.

The Millers are in action again on Wednesday night against Fulham at Craven Cottage and Evans admits he will have to prepare his side following an energetic performance at the Riverside:

“My team’s had a right go and they’ll be tired and we’ll prepare them and rest them up to get them ready for the next one."
