The Academy take on Mansfield...

Rotherham United’s Academy will kick off the Youth Alliance season with a home fixture against Mansfield Town tomorrow morning (11am).

The Millers will host the Stags at the club training base at Roundwood, where they will be playing the majority of their home fixtures this season.

After a successful pre-season tour in Hungary, where the scholars were based at the Hungarian equivalent of St. George’s Park, Academy boss Garreth Barker told www.themillers.co.uk that the boys were now ready to start competitive league action.

“It is the first league of the season and we are fortunate that Parkgate have allowed us to use the pitch this year, so we have a great surface to play on,” said Garreth.

“We had our first run out on it last week when we played a friendly against a local team, so that allowed the boys to get used to their environment and we are very much looking forward to the first game.”

With no first team fixture for the Millers due to the international break, Garreth’s young chargers could be the answer for any fans looking for their weekend fix of football. The Academy boss welcomes any potential support, with the season curtain raiser kicking off at 11am.

“We would welcome any extra support that we may get from the local community and the fans,” Garreth added.

“It will be very beneficial for the players to play in front of a crowd; we don’t usually get that opportunity under normal circumstances, so that can only help the lads for their future development.”
