Rotherham United have completed the signing of Ipswich Town midfielder Luke Hyam on an emergency loan deal, subject to FA ratification.
The 24-year-old has signed a deal until January to cover for injuries, and joined his new team mates for the first time at the club training ground at Roundwood this morning.
A one club man, Hyam leaves Portman Road for the first time in his career after making over 100 appearances for the Tractor Boys since making his debut in 2010.
“I spoke to my agent and the Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy and they told me that Rotherham were interested in taking me on loan,” Hyam confirmed to www.themillers.co.uk
“They asked me what I thought and I was keen to come straight away. I always look forward to a challenge. I’ve never moved previously. I’ve always played at Ipswich all my career but I just need to play some games now so this is a great opportunity.”
After making a handful of appearances for Ipswich during the 2010/11 and 2011/12 season, Hyam’s breakthrough year came during the following season. He made 32 appearances during the 2012/13 campaign to firmly establish himself in the Ipswich side where he would be a regular for the next two seasons.
Injury disrupted his progress last term but he still managed 18 appearances in all competitions as Ipswich reached the Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-finals. Now fully fit, the Ipswich-born ace is ready to once again embrace the opportunity of regular first-team football at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
“It has been a while since I have had the opportunity to play first-team football, so this is a great opportunity for me to get some games and try to impress and help get some points for Rotherham,” he added.
“I am a hard working player and I like to get stuck in. I know the club is close to the bottom but I like to roll my sleeves up and get stuck into the challenge. I like to get up and down the pitch and hopefully I can do that here and do a good job for the team.
“I played with Frazer Richardson, Paul Green and Danny Collins whilst I was at Ipswich. They are all top guys and from what the manager said it is a really good group of lads here so I am looking forward to meeting them all and training with them today.”
Hyam’s arrival is the third in recent weeks for the Millers following the arrivals of Irish duo Stephen Kelly and Leon Best.
