Lewis Buxton spoke to the official matchday programme...

DEFENDER Lewis Buxton admitted he is determined to make up for lost time after successfully overcoming his pre-season injury problem.

Since making the short hop from S6, Buxton found himself on the sidelines with injury hampering his pre-season campaign, which saw the Millers embark on games in Scotland and back at the AESSEAL New York Stadium against Leicester and FSV Mainz.

However, Buxton has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to regain his fitness to hold down a regular place in the right-back slot.

Speaking exclusively to the Millers official matchday programme, Buxton was quick to express his delight at his progress.

“It’s was a bit frustrating, so it’s a relief to be fit,” he stressed.

“I missed a bit of pre-season so I was happy to get some minutes under my belt and I have enjoyed the games.”

Buxton is one of a number of proven Championship talents, who have decided to join the Rotherham revolution in the summer, with the club looking to consolidate their status in England’s second tier after only guaranteeing survival on the penultimate game of their debut campaign.

After being an interested observer of Millers’ affairs from just down the road, Buxton admitted the challenge of taking the club forward was one that he was excited by as he put pen to paper in the summer alongside fellow Owls' Chris Maguire and Joe Mattock.

“The main thing for me was to play Championship football and stay in the league,” he admitted.

“Rotherham is a positive club, where everyone works hard and in some ways I wanted to get my career back on track as I haven’t played as many games as I’d have liked in the last few years.

“Every year the Championship seems to get tougher and tougher so the main thing is to concentrate on staying in the league and build on that year after year.”
