Rotherham United’s latest recruit Lewis Buxton is keen to get the new season underway following his summer switch to AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The 31-year-old defender joins Steve Evans’ pack following his release from Sheffield Wednesday and becomes the club’s third signing of the close season.

The former Portsmouth and Stoke man is keen to get underway at his new club following a frustrating campaign last time out and insists the decision to join the Millers was an easy one to make.

“It was simple, I just want to get back playing and have a good season and play every game I can,” he explained.

“I found out I’d been released from Wednesday and then my agent got in contact with the club.

“I came down and met the manager and staff on Wednesday and I was really impressed and I’m looking forward to the new season.”

Buxton finished the 2014/15 campaign strongly, featuring in the defence at Hillsborough 10 times as Sheffield Wednesday secured a solid mid-table Sky Bet Championship position and the Isle of Wight-born full back is hoping to hit the ground running.

“My aim is just to have a positive season. I finished strongly last season and I want to push on. I know Joe Mattock and Richard Wood so hopefully that’ll help me settle into the side.

“I got back into the team towards the back end of the season and got over any problems I had so that was a positive for me.”

The 31-year-old also spoke to some old Owls colleagues before deciding to make the switch to AESSEAL New York Stadium, consulting summer signing Joe Mattock who he played with at Hillsborough last term.

“I spoke to Joe and had a quick chat with him and he had a lot of positive things to say about the manager and the atmosphere here which I experienced at the back end of last season.

“Obviously I’d been at Wednesday for a long time but I’m looking for a fresh start and I want to get back to the level I’m capable of."
