Lewis Buxton signs for the Millers...

Rotherham United have completed the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday defender Lewis Buxton, subject to medical, and Football League ratification.

The versatile defender concluded discussions at AESSEAL New York Stadium this afternoon and will officially become a Miller from July 1st.

Buxton joins fellow new signings Aidy White and Joe Mattock as boss Steve Evans continues to mould his squad ahead of the Championship curtain raiser against MK Dons on August 8th.

The 31-year-old started his professional career with Portsmouth but he is best known for his spells with Stoke City and Wednesday. He played a major role in The Owls’ promotion to The Championship in 2012, and was their Player of the Year in 2013.

Assistant Manager Paul Raynor was delighted to have finally captured a man that they have been tracking for a prolonged period over the close season.

“He’s an experienced defender and proven Championship footballer. It’s taken a few weeks to get it over the line but we’re delighted to finally have him on board,” he explained.

“We registered our interest a couple of weeks ago like you do when you find out what is available in the market and the first time we met face-to-face with Lewis was yesterday.

“He was anxious to sign and he’s keen to come and join us here and we’re absolutely delighted to have him on board."
