Super fan John reaches 1000 consecutive Millers' games...
Rotherham United will be honouring super fan John Norris on Tuesday night as he completes an astonishing 1,000 consecutive games following the Millers.John will be the Millers' special guest in the Boardroom at The Amex Stadium, as he celebrates his milestone by watching the game from the plush surroundings at the home of Brighton & Hove Albion.
“Rotherham United are delighted to invite John to sit with the Official Club contingent within the Boardroom on Tuesday as our guest of honour,” said Chairman Tony Stewart.
"Such a milestone could not have passed without the club recognising the achievements of one of our most loyal supporters.
“People like John are the lifeblood of a Football Club and for all the loyalty and support he has shown Rotherham United over the years, in attending 1,000 consecutive games, we had to mark the occasion in style.
“I am sure this will be a wholly different experience for John, who would normally be roaring on his team from the terraces, but I am sure he will love the experience of watching the Millers from the vantage point of the Directors’ Box."
A familiar face to most at Rotherham United, John has travelled the length and breadth of the country to fulfill his passion of following his beloved Millers, which sparked his amazing unbroken run.
Gresty Road probably doesn’t hold much significance for Millers fans but for John this is where his journey began. Despite attending games regularly since the late 80s, it was at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday 24th April 1996 where his incredible run started.
Considering the amount of miles John has covered over the years, it was appropriate that he would have to make the 500 mile round trip on a Tuesday night to complete his 1,000th game.
“We’ve done the likes of Plymouth and Exeter and all the rest on a Tuesday night so it is rather appropriate after all the miles that we put in throughout the year that this one is the longest of the season,” John told www.themillers.co.uk.
“It’ll definitely be something different. It’s a different world up there to what I’m used to but I’m looking forward to it.
“It’ll be nice to watch the game from a different perspective and interesting to hear what Tony Stewart and the other Directors have to say during the match.”
John has spent the majority of his 1000 game run amongst the Millers’ fans on the terraces but does admit to having sampled the hospitality experience back in the club’s days at their former home.
“I’ve done it a couple of times at Millmoor but I’m guessing it’ll be a little bit different from that and it will certainly be different from the Pukka Pie that I normally have!” he joked.
The Millers’ super fan insists he will be looking to extend his impressive run of games to the next milestone following his VIP experience at the Amex Stadium and is hoping to avoid any further hiccups along the way.
“I’ve no intention of starting to miss games now but you never know what is around the corner.
“I can’t see anything stopping me unless there’s any breakdowns or anything like that because I’ve had it in the past where the car has broken down and we’ve ended up flagging the Supporters’ Club coach down and that was going to Chester in 1999."
