Jerry Yates has signed a new deal with the Millers...

Rotherham United striker Jerry Yates has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The 19-year-old front man is a product of the Millers’ Academy structure, and has been on the bench for the first-team on a number of occasions this season.

He made his professional bow for the Millers as a substitute against Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s last season.

“I am delighted to have been given this opportunity,” Jerry told www.themillers.co.uk

“I am really looking forward to my future here, and hopefully I can now start to push on and over the course of next season start to force my way into the team.

“The manager and the staff have been a big help to me in training. My personal aim now is to get more experience and keep working hard on my game.”

This season Yates has enjoyed two successful loan spells at Harrogate Town, scoring five goals in 10 games.

“Going out on loan was a great experience for me,” he added.

“I scored goals which was good for my confidence. I feel that playing in a tough and competitive league has really helped my game, and also helped me mentally as I had to adapt to demands of senior football.”

Yates has been the leading light for the Millers’ Academy prospects in recent years, with the likes of Kuda Muskwe, Darnelle Bailey-King, Tom Rose, Fabian Bailey and Laurence Bilboe all recently receiving professional terms.
