Rotherham United boss Steve Evans conceded his side need to be more clinical in front of goal after they slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Fulham at AESSEAL New York Stadium.The Millers forged a number of opportunities against the Cottagers after Ben Pringle had opened the scoring against his former club, but were unable to record a positive result despite Jonson Clarke-Harris’s reply in the second half.
Millers’ boss Evans admitted in the wake of the defeat that his side need to be more ruthless in front of goal to prevent them ruing missed chances as the season progresses.
“We got to take our chances; we created two or three good chances first half, and second half,” Evans explained.
“Even when it comes back to 2-1 you know there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, so we need to sit down and think it through.
“Its fine lines in football, but it can’t be fine lines on a consistent basis. Clarke-Harris had a big chance at 0-0 which clips the boy’s leg but it should have gone in the back of the net.”
Ross McCormack doubled the visitor’s advantage from the penalty spot, after James Husband was felled in the box and Evans explained that his side will be putting in the hours to eradicate the errors in their performance.
“It was a rash challenge from Greg Halford. We just have to get back on the training ground and work hard now.
“It was quiet words in there today. People know if you’re shouting and bawling it’s passion, but we all took it very seriously and we will be back in the morning working on a few things.
However, the Millers' boss was pleased with the contribution of goalscorer Clarke-Harris, who found his name on the scoresheet for a second time in as many league games with a thunderous second half effort.
“Clarke-Harris was magnificent today,” he enthused.
“It was a stunning strike and I don’t think any goalkeeper in the country would have saved it, and we did keep going from there."
