Now that Rotherham United’s season is in full swing, the Community Department are beginning the local rounds of the Football League Kid’s cup on Thursday January 22nd.

We’ll be doing our very best this season, to find the best school 6 aside team from our area who will hopefully bring the Football League Kids Cup trophy back to the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Last year over 2,000 schools entered the competition, with the finalists getting the chance to play at Wembley Stadium.

The road to Wembley starts in January when our club will organise local competitions for all local schools who wish to take part. The Kids Cup is for under 11 children, and the winning schools will win the right to represent us in the national stages of the tournament and could progress all the way to the final for the prize of a lifetime – playing football at Wembley stadium.

There are thousands of professional footballers that have never got to play at Wembley, so to be in with a chance of stepping onto the hallowed turf is a spectacular opportunity. Not even Pele, one of the greatest players of all time, got to play at Wembley Stadium!

Last season, Herringthorpe St Marys did a great job representing RUFC in the Kids Cup, but we know there are loads of great school teams in our area and many of you will want the chance to show off your skills at the home of football.

Jamie Noble, Head of Community Said “Its great to invite the schools to take part in a large competition. We have already exceeded the number of schools and teams entering and this will without doubt be one of the biggest tournament seen in the football league this season.”
