The Academy slip to defeat at Burton...

Rotherham United’s Academy were defeat 4-1 at Burton Albion at the weekend.

The Millers failed to build on a positive first-half showing, but substitute Adam Johnson bagged his first goal of the season with a late consolation for Garreth Barker’s side.

Barker was happy with his side’s start to the game but two goals in quick succession in the second 45 took the game away from his side.

“We were 1-0 down at the break but I was pleased with the way we were playing,” he told www.themillers.co.uk

“We showed good work rate, defensive responsibility and then we came into the break with plenty to play for.

“After half-time within a period of 15 minutes we had conceded couple of goals and that came down to two individual errors which unfortunately happens at youth team level.  What you then have to do with players is ensure that they learn from it and move forward.

“At that stage it was tough to get back into the game and as we pressed forward we left ourselves open at the back, and they scored again on the counter.

“The lads showed a good attitude to keep going and we got a goal back at the end, whilst we were also pleased to get some game time into some lads who are stepping up from under 16 level.”

Team: Bilboe; Bailey, Rose, Saxton, Smalley, Bailey-King, Dickinson (Adeyemi 57), Potts (Abraham 80), Redmayne (Johnson 56), Wiles, Muskwe.

Subs not used: Fidler, Wilson.
