Football League first for the Millers...

Rotherham United have entered an exciting new partnership with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and credit unions Rothersave and Laser.

The agreement will see the Millers break new ground in helping promote their local credit unions, in partnership with the local authority.

The partnership will see the name of Laser Credit Union appear on the Rotherham United home shorts, whilst Rothersave will be emblazoned on the Millers’ away shorts, in an initial deal until the end of the season.

Both companies will also take the opportunity to advertise their respective businesses via a perimeter board at the Millers state-of-the-art New York Stadium, and through an advert in the club matchday programme.

“In the current global climate of financial instability Rotherham United are delighted to able to promote what is a more responsible method of credit loan,” said Millers Chairman Tony Stewart.

“We feel using the power of football we are helping put forward a sensible method of affordable loans, along with two highly respected local credit companies who have been established over a significant period of time in the local area.

“Both companies have provided sound financial advice to local people within the borough of Rotherham, and from the football club’s perspective we are delighted to come on board with two highly professional businesses for what will be a hugely beneficial partnership for the football club and the local area.

“The role of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council cannot be underestimated in helping all parties put together this partnership. We have a fantastic working relationship with the local authority who provided significant input and imagination in successfully helping forge together this agreement with Rothersave and Laser Credit Union.

“We are proud as a club that we made a conscious decision to proactively seek an agreement with both Rothersave and Laser, despite several more financially lucrative offers which had been presented to us.”

Roger Stone, Leader of the Council added:

“This is a unique opportunity for Rotherham to be the first club in the Football League to promote their local credit unions.

“This will help to support our Rotherham partnership campaign to raise awareness of the alternatives to high cost lending, by offering affordable and ethical alternatives for people.

“This is a win-win deal that will benefit many people in the local community.”
