Former Millers youngster set for Bodens BK...
Former Academy scholar Adam Johnson is set to continue his career after securing a move to Sweden.The striker left the Millers over Christmas after concluding his scholarship and after a brief stint with Parkgate FC, he has landed a big move to Swedish side Bodens BK.
The youngster showed great determination to recover from a serious injury in the first year of his scholarship, and Academy manager Garreth Barker is delighted that Adam has secured a richly deserved move.
“Adam’s scholarship was extended by six months because of his injury which meant he stayed with us until Christmas,” Garreth told the Millers’ official matchday programme.
“Opportunities are quite limited around that time but we spoke to Parkgate and that gave Adam the opportunity to go there and play.
“Off the back of that I spoke to a colleague of mine who works out in Sweden who has taken players from here before.
“Adam expressed an interest in going so we put him in touch with Bodens BK manager Stuart Gibson and it went from there.”
Bodens BK are a former second division Swedish club who have previously enjoyed average crowds in excess of 2,500.
They have an Englishman in Stuart Gibson in charge, and have a history of bringing players over from England.
“They are based in the far north of the country and for those who don’t know their geography of Sweden it was formerly one of the countries most northerly clubs,” added Garreth.
“They play in a 5,000 all seated stadium, with some fantastic outdoor and indoor facilities.
“Stuart (Gibson) has been out in Sweden for a number of years and has been very successful and he likes what he has seen of Adam.
“I think the initial contract for Adam will be around 16 weeks. There is then a break in the Swedish season, and then there is the option for him to play until the end of October which brings to an end of the Swedish season.
“It is great news for us as an Academy that we can offer viable exit routes for lads who are leaving the football club."
