In a week where FA cup replays were played and the regular league fixtures got back underway after the international break, there was plenty for Millers fans to look back on after this weekend...The Managers
There is really only one place to start and that is with Steve Evans, facing his old side. A victory over West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town meant Leeds went into the international break in high spirits. However, Evans could not overcome his former employers as Rotherham gained a vital three points against Leeds, which lifted them off the foot of the table. Meanwhile, ex-Leeds Head Coach and current Millers manager Neil Redfearn will be delighted with his side’s 1-0 win, which marked his first in charge of his new club.
In recent weeks we’ve documented the constant rise of Scunthorpe United under ex-Millers boss Mark Robins. Bradford City were the visitors to Glanford Park on Saturday in a game which saw the Bantams record a 2-0 victory. After Scunthorpe’s second defeat in a row, Robins will be hoping to get his side get back to winning ways.
Paul Hurst’s Grimsby Town won on Saturday and have now triumphed in four games in a row to move up to fourth in the Vanarama National League. The Mariners were playing third place Eastleigh and won 1-0 to ensure their current good form continues.
The Players
Michael O'Connor grabbed a first half goal for Port Vale against Maidenhead United to take them through to the second round of the FA Cup. Vale won 3-1 on the night and dashed Maidenhead’s dream of getting to the second round of the cup for the first time in 129 years.
Tom Pope now at Bury had a great game for the Shakers, and although he didn’t score, he tested Burton Albion’s keeper all afternoon. Pope made over 50 appearances for the Millers and will be looking to help Bury climb the League 1 table further, they currently sit in the last playoff spot.
Ex-Miller Johnny Mullins helped his Oxford United side keep a clean sheet and get a win against bottom of the table Dagenham and Redbridge. Mullins’ current team sit second in League 2, two points behind leaders Plymouth.
Once a fan favourite at Rotherham, Adam Le Fondre now at Wolves set up Benik Afobe who headed Wolves to level and make the score 2-2, which is how it finished against Ipswich.
Kieran Agard scored for Bristol City on the 39th minute to give the Robins a well-deserved lead against Hull City, however the tigers came back and the game ended 1-1. Agard played over 70 games for the Millers and was a critical part of the promotion side.
Grant Leadbitter scored a dramatic last minute penalty for Middlesbrough against QPR on Friday night. Boro, who won 1-0, still look very strong for promotion to the top flight.
Ex-Miller Ian Henderson scored twice on Saturday to give his current side Rochdale a vital win. It ends Rochdale’s miserable run and keeps them nicely in mid-table.
Former Rotherham favourite Alex Revell played for the Millers from 2011-15 and also helped the club get promoted. Revell scored the only goal on Saturday for Wigan against Shrewsbury and keeps the Latics well within the League 1 promotion race.
