Millers back White Ribbon campaign

12 December 2014

Sponsored by

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust and Rotherham United FC supports this year’s White Ribbon Campaign.

What does White Ribbon Day stand for?

The WRC (White Ribbon Campaign) is the largest effort in the world of men working to end men’s violence against women. Each year, men and boys are encouraged to wear a ribbon from November 25, which is the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women.

Our staff have been out in the community raising awareness about abusive behaviour and have also supported the campaign wearing the White Ribbon Campaign ‘Real Man’ t-shirt.

Tomorrow’s game with Nottingham Forest has been assigned to raise further awareness with a number of messages being displayed at the game.

Chief Inspector Ian Womersley from South Yorkshire Police said: "Rotherham continues to demonstrate its commitment to tackling domestic abuse and Rotherham United were instrumental in the town achieving White Ribbon status last month, so I am delighted to be attending this dedicated White Ribbon match.

"Police cadets will be assisting the club on the day alongside our partners, to raise awareness of the campaign among matchgoers.

"I hope that the support from the club and players at such a public event encourages many more men to make their pledge."
