Acting on research that showed adolescent girls received less attention than boys, this day was initiated in 1993 by the Ms. Foundation for Women, New York.
The intention was to give girls additional direct attention and an insight into work world opportunities available to them. It was to serve the multiple purpose of increased self-esteem for young girls as well as give them some ideas of the wealth of careers in the worldOur Community Project Manager, Zanib Rasool brought her 15 year old niece Aliya to work today, Thursday 24th April, who spent her day shadowing her aunt and RUCST staff. Aliya attended meetings and visited some of our half term activities in community for young people.
Aliya said “Today gave me an insight to the work of Rotherham United Community Sports Trust and the different roles within it, the range of work they deliver from home exercise sessions for older people to soccer camps to National Citizen Service. A very busy office and team.”
