The Millers sign Anthony Wordsworth...

Rotherham United have completed the signing of Anthony Wordsworth from Ipswich Town on a long-term loan, subject to Football League ratification.

A goalscoring midfielder, Wordsworth is the second signing this week following the arrival of Richie Smalwood from Middlesbrough as Steve Evans further strengthens his midfield options.

“I am delighted that we have been able to bring Anthony Wordsworth to New York Stadium,” Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“He was a lad that we tried to sign on a few occasions last season but on every occasion we got close he was then back in Mick McCarthy’s first team so it never became a reality.

“The lad will bring a nice balance to our midfield area, he is naturally left sided with a sweet left peg and can play on the left or centrally should the need arise.

“He is a talented boy who will come straight into contention for tomorrow’s tough match away at Millwall.

“It was important that if I added to the squad that I brought a player in who was with us for some time, and not just a few weeks.”

Wordsworth joined Ipswich from Colchester in 2013 after making close to 200 appearances for The U’s.

The 25-year-old rose through the youth ranks at Colchester before making his first team bow in 2007. The following season he became a regular in the U’s side before moving to Ipswich for a six-figure fee in January 2013.

Wordsworth played a part in Ipswich’s opening day defeat of Fulham this season and played 90 minutes in their Capital One Cup clash with Crawley Town.
