Rotherham United have signed Nouha Dicko on emergency loan...

Rotherham United have this morning completed the emergency loan signing of Nouha Dicko from Wigan Athletic.

The 21-year-old signed a deal until January after terms were agreed with the Championship club late last night. Manager Steve Evans has moved to plug the gap in attack after his first-team options became limited following the loan departures of Daniel Nardiello and Danny Hylton.

Dicko, who has played for Wigan in the Community Shield against Manchester United as recently as August, has also played for the Latics in the Europa League this season. He started his career at Strasbourg in his native France before moving to England to join Wigan in 2011.

“I am delighted that we have been able to bring ‘Dicky’ to the Millers after two previous attempts failed,” Evans revealed to www.themillers.co.uk

“I first tried to sign the lad last season but the Wigan manager at the time, Roberto Martinez, wanted to keep him involved with his first-team. On the second occasion I approached Owen Coyle back in July but again my attempts to sign him were rebuffed.

“The lad can obviously score a goal and has the type of electric pace that will frighten defenders at any level of the game. ‘Dicky’ for me and for others I respect in the game is a striker, but he is also very effective playing in a wide role on either side of the pitch.

“From the first minute I spoke to the lad he made it clear he wanted to join us in preference to other options he had in front of him. He is joining a very talented and focused squad of players, let us all wish the lad every success in his time being a Miller.”

Dicko has had two successful loan spells with Blackpool which included an appearance in the Championship play-off final defeat to West Ham United at Wembley, whilst he has also had a brief loan spell with Wolves towards the end of last season.
