Rotherham United have signed David Worrall from Bury...

Rotherham United have completed the signing of David Worrall for an undisclosed fee from Bury.

The winger has signed a two-year contract, with an option of a third year, after successfully completing a medical and becoming Millers boss Steve Evans’ fourth signing of the close season.

Worrall will join up with fellow new summer signings Joe Skarz, Richard Brindley and Adam Collin when the Millers first-team squad return for pre-season training next week.

On his official conformation as a Miller, Worrall revealed he was delighted to be on board.

“I had the opportunity to join other clubs but before I had made up my mind I heard of Rotherham United’s interest, and it didn’t take long for me to sign,” the 23-year-old told www.themillers.co.uk

“I spoke with Joe Skarz who I know well from Bury, had a look around the stadium and knew that it was a great move for me. Looking around it was a lot different to what I am used to, I spent five years at Bury where there were many ‘ups’ at the start but last season was a struggle. As soon as I spoke to Rotherham and learned about what the Gaffer had planned I jumped at the chance to sign.”

The Manchester-born ace is keen to impress the Millers’ fans, vowing to work hard whilst also looking to continue to develop as a player.

“I am an honest hard working player, and hopefully I can bring something different to the club, and hopefully the club can improve me as a professional,” he added.

“Even if I’m having a bad game I’ll still make sure that I keep running, keep working hard and giving 100% for the team. I’m still young and I am always learning but I believe that I can develop as a player at Rotherham.”

Worrall was part of the Bury side that earned promotion to League One in 2011 and was player of the year in the Shakers’ first season in the third tier as they finished in a comfortable mid-table position. Despite relegation last season Worrall has had two-years at League One level and admitted it will be a step up in class for his new club next season.

“I’ve looked at the first month of the fixtures and after playing in League One for a few years I know it will be tough, but I don’t see any reason why we cannot go into those games and get some good points,” he continued.

“We will be a surprise package to an extent to some teams in this division who won’t have played Rotherham for a few years, and hopefully that may fall in our favour.

“There is a difference between the leagues, there was a noticeable jump in quality as you would expect. Certain teams, like MK Dons for example, sometimes you have to concede that you will not have all of the ball, but by working hard you can still break teams down who play like that and I am sure we will be a forced to be reckoned with next season.”

Worrall began his career with Bury before switching to West Bromwich Albion as a teenager. He admitted the move was pivotal for his career and whilst he failed to break into the Albion first-team, he enjoyed his time at The Hawthorns, before moving back to Gigg Lane in 2010.

“It was massive for me and I learned so much from playing there,” said the former Accrington and Shrewsbury loanee.

“Tony Mowbray was a good manager to play for and was a massive help and influence on my career. It was a different world at the time signing for a big club and moving into the area, the stadium and facilities were first class and I can see the similarities now that I’m a Rotherham player. The stadium is fantastic with top draw facilities so it does feel a little similar to when I first moved to West Brom.”
