Rotherham United have beat the transfer deadline after completing the signing of exciting young Oldham Athletic striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.
The 20-year-old striker has signed for an undisclosed fee in a deal that represents a new club transfer record for the Millers.
In a busy day up and down the country manager Steve Evans beat the 11pm transfer deadline after Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas agreed personal terms with the Leicester-born front-man’s representatives late this evening.
“Jonson is a lad we tried to sign prior to moving to Oldham Athletic so as night follows day we have tracked his progress at Boundary Park with real interest,” boss Steve Evans told www.themillers.co.uk
“Last season he produced a number of stunning performances and it is no surprise that he has today been subject to a deadline day move to play Championship football, I am delighted Rotherham United has won the race to sign the boy.
“Over the summer period we have made a number of approaches to Oldham Athletic as we tried to recruit his services. He is a powerful boy with lighting pace and is an outstanding addition to what is already a very talented squad, we all look forward to working with Johnno and watching his progress continue.”
A former Coventry City youngster, Clarke-Harris also had a spell with Peterborough United before making his name in the professional game at Oldham who he joined for a reported six-figure fee.
He made a huge impact at Boundary Park last season making 49 appearances in all competitions, regularly being voted man of the match by the Boundary Park faithful. He has been a regular for Lee Johnson’s Latics again this campaign, netting at the weekend in the 2-0 victory at Doncaster Rovers.
