Gaffer pleased with ball retention...

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans praised his midfield following their performance at the Macron Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Paul Green and Richie Smallwood started in the heart of engine room, whilst Anthony Wordsworth came back into the side starting from the left-hand side, and the enigmatic Paul Taylor was switched out to the right.

“I thought Greeny, Anthony and Richie Smallwood were terrific, and then Paul Taylor excites you and gets you on the edge of your seat every time he gets the ball. We kept the ball well, we passed it, we went into feet and performance wise it was there.

“We came away from Bolton a bit on the floor and a bit dejected at the result but you couldn’t be disappointed in the performance because I think even the Bolton staff were wondering how they’d got three points. They did though and we have to put that behind us and look towards an undefeated Charlton on Saturday.”

Whilst the Millers are still adapting to life in the Championship, the Manager searched for the correct balance between attack and defence, but he feels that it was found on Tuesday evening.

“I think we found the balance and got it right,” Evans added. “I don’t think we necessarily did at Bournemouth, I think we sat off them a bit and didn’t close them down as well as we can but at Bolton we were dead right. However, you cannot legislate for individual errors, but they happen, just like individual pieces of brilliance that you can’t train and fantastic saves you don’t expect, but when you make Bolton score three goals to win a game and they’re all coming from errors then you just have to put it behind you for the next game.”
