Lilly Hall A won the Npower Kid's Cup at the Phoenix in Brinsworth and will now move on to the regional finals.
11 teams from 13 schools played out the Npower Kid’s Cup at the Phoenix in Brinsworth.The Lilly Hall A team emerged victorious after the tournament was hit by brutal wind and rain. But that didn’t stop the teams battling on to find the Kid’s Cup winner.
Lilly Hall A, a school based in Malty, made their way past schools from Brinsworth, Kimberworth and Sitwell to claim their second Kid’s Cup in a row. However, they had to do it the hard way, beating Sitwell in a close call penalty shoot-out.
Thornhill, East Dene, Rawmarsh Rosehill and Lilly Hall B were the other teams that were involved in the finals of the tournament.
Lilly Hall A now face the tough task of making it past the League 2 regional finals in Bradford. They will come up against teams from the other 10 schools that made it through in their own area’s tournament.
However, if the boys from Lilly Hall A manage to produce the form they showed in the horrendous weather at the Phoenix and go on to win the regional finals, they will progress on to play the winners of the southern regional tournament...at Wembley Stadium. If they make it that far, they will be in with a chance of being crowned the overall League 2 champions.
Participation Officer James Cole said: “It was a fantastic tournament this year. It was a shame about the weather, but all credit to the schools, they played through the wind, rain and hail. They all deserve to win this tournament after their performances in those conditions
“I would also like to say thank you to all the coaches, parents, teachers and all the participants for turning up today. This one was really a tournament to remember. We saw some fantastic performances out there.
“Finally, I would like to congratulate Lilly Hall A for going on to win the tournament. All their players performed heroically today, and I want to wish them good luck in the regional tournament. Hopefully this team from Rotherham can go all the way.”
