Rotherham United Community Sports Trust has created a female only section to the football Club.

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust have been successful in receiving a second year of funding from the Football League Trust and Sport England for 14-25 year old girls to participate in football. Titled Rotherham United WGFC, the club now works in partnership with Rotherham United Ladies and Brinsworth Whitehill to offer teams at under 11’s, under 13’s, under 15’s and under 16’s as well as the Development Squad.

Jamie Noble, Head of Community commented “By setting up junior parts of the Rotherham United, it will give you the chance to play for Rotherham United Ladies in the future. With the recent success of our men’s first team and the hard work of the youth set up, this club is really going places and we want the women and girls of Rotherham to be a part of this.

“Since setting up the scheme we have seen over 30 girls join the teams and many have gone on to look to Study with the Rotherham United Education Academy which is effectively a college within the football club. We offer BTEC courses in Sport, Apprenticeships as well as Foundation Degrees and Alternative provision for young people where school doesn’t suit them. To date we have had 4 girls join our programme with many more interested in studying whilst playing for the club they support.”

Simon Walker, Ladies Manager said “The Community Trust has really helped us with recruitment for the teams, we have some really good squads and with one or two additions we will be very competitive this season. The club have been fantastic at supporting us from opening the doors to sponsorship to allowing us to have pre-season photos taken at the magnificent New York Stadium.”
