After a narrow defeat at home to Scunthorpe in their opening game, there was a goal bonanza in the North-East after a 6-3 defeat to Hartlepool.
Despite a brace from substitute Andy Norfolk and a strike from captain Alex Wiles, the Millers shipped six goals in what turned into a topsy-turvey game for Gareth Barker’s youngsters.
“Hartlepool is always a tough place to go but we again took the opportunity to give a number of first year scholars a chance,” said Barker.
“One or two found the going difficult in the first period, and we were 3-1 down at half-time despite a terrific goal from Alex Wiles. The lads responded better in the second-half but after getting back into the game with Andy Norfolk (2) a couple of errors cost us in the end, despite having three chances cleared off the line.”
