G4S TROPHY: Thornhill V St. Marys

3 March 2015

The G4S Trophy Semi Final kicked off half-time during the Rotherham United V Millwall match on February 28th. It was clear that both teams were very nervous as a place in the final was at stake.

The game started very slowly as neither team seemed confident enough to attack for the fear of being exposed. It was clear that it would take something special to break the deadlock and St Marys provided this on the 5 minute mark when the striker rolled a defender and fired a shot low and hard into the bottom corner. St Marys confidence then grew and they attacked and hit the bar twice in quick succession.

Thornhill came up with their own piece of individual brilliance against the strike of play when the striker picked up the ball almost on the throw in line and fired the ball pass the St Marys goalkeeper from an impossible angle.

This did not phase St Marys too much as they continued to press on and hit the bar with a spectacular overhead effort. Neither team could find the winning goal and the match went to sudden death penalties.

When Thornhill missed the first shot and kicked it to the left to Declan Mullane who tuck the ball home and send St Marys into the final.
