Raynor finds reasoning behind late victories...

Assistant Manager Paul Raynor has praised Rotherham United’s fitness levels after seeing them grab late wins in their previous two outings.

Lee Frecklington curled home an almost carbon-copy of Alex Revell’s late winner when the Millers overcame Stevenage last week and Raynor believes the credit should be spread between the staff and the players themselves.

“We’re very fit, that’s something that hasn’t really been mentioned before,” Raynor told Millers Player. “The boys work extremely hard with Paul (Warne), the Gaffer and myself and we’ve come on strong in games which is really positive and gained us the points.

“The rehabilitation has to be right and there’s a fine balance now with lots of games, heavy pitches and postponements but we rely heavily on Paul Warne for that. He’s very knowledgeable about that side of the game and he’s been a real asset to us. If we can maintain those levels and keep going for the rest of the season it bodes well for us.”

As well as the level of fitness shown by the players, Raynor also emphasised the character and fighting spirit amongst the current crop of players, which was previously highlighted by Manager Steve Evans.

“The gaffer mentioned in January that we’d like to come out of the transfer window stronger than we went in and we feel we have. We haven’t got a massive squad by any means compared to other teams in our league, but there’s a lot of quality in depth and the recent games have highlighted the character and quality we have in there.”
